Thanks Derek! You might be able to help.

Hi, Suren
Yes it makes sense to me :-)
As I said, I don't have an AN200 myself, but can't check things specially. Your SYSEX message looks correctly formatted to me (P119 of AN200 PDF manual shows the dump).
Is your AN200 set to SYSEX ID of 1 or ALL? Have you tried other
parameter ca=hanges and can you see them work?
When experimenting with SYSEX, I use MIDIOX. You can type
commands manually and then send them.
Regards
Derek
Thanks Derek! You might be able to help.
While I was scrawling through the MIDI parameters of the AN200 (making the most of this machine by arming myself with a bunch of external faders controlling a whole heap of hidden functions) I noticed that on page 133 it says the following:
Step Seq Loop Type forward(0),backward(1),alternateA(2), 00(forward) alternateB(3)
NOW surely this means there is a way to get the sequencer to play in directions other than 'Forward' and Backward' - which is only possible via the front panel controls.
Do you know anything about this? I've spent ages trying to work out the sysex for this on my Kenton Control Freak and doesn't work! S o frustrating! I've got what seems to be the correct sysex message but only Forwards and Backward work and the other two modes simply don't function. Would love these extra modes - it would be amazing to get the standard 16-step sequencer to be effectively doubled by having it play 'Ping Pong' for example.
:-)
BTW. the message I'm sending is
F0 43 10 5C 00 00 09 XX F7 (where XX is one of the 4 playback modes)
Thanks very much, really hope this makes sense to you.Suren

Hello !
i suspect that your problems come from the USB - MIDI interface. For some obscure reason some work perfectly, others not. All will send and receive note data, nearly all deal with mod wheel or ribbon data, but the troubles come with SysEx data which can be "too long". Borrow another one, different from yours of course, and have a try. Or, using Midi Ox (freeware MIDI "swiss knife") you can check what is coming from your synth and what you can send from your computer. There is somewhere on the An1X forum a short list of the "bad" and "good" ones... if i remember well. You can experience similar troubles with hardware mergers, most will severely filter anything else than notes and mod wheel - pitch bend data.
Cheers.

Hi,
Well if you are confident that other features are working, then you could be correct and the function does not exist despite what the manual says. I've seen errors in them before.
Cheers
Derek
Thanks for the reply. Yes I know SYSEX works 100% as I've been sending a whole load of other messages to it, I've mapped at least 45 faders on an external controller to different messages for the AN200!
So that's why it's extra frustrating that this sequencer play mode I'm trying to explore doesn't work - it would be 1 of the best features imho.
1 possibility is that this feature doesn't exist and was just borrowed from AN1X SYSEX data and was never proof-read before being published :-(

Try changing the 5C to 6D.
From:
F0 43 10 5C 00 00 09 XX F7 (where XX is one of the 4 playback modes)
To:
F0 43 10 6D 00 00 09 XX F7 (where XX is one of the 4 playback modes)

Just to confirm, yes I was sending 6D all along but it definitely doesn't work. I've tried Yamaha Support and they initally sent me SYSEX messages to transmit which was exactly what I had been sending (but with the original 5C) code. So even they seem to be confused.
I just really want to hear/see someone pull this off to know if it's possible! Otherwise it seems like the manual may have just taken this SYSEX info from the AN1X and forgot to edit it.
Which is really crap
