AN1X USB MIDI Driver connectivity issue

AN1X USB MIDI Driver connectivity issue

2013-12-05 by <mikewadepiano@...>

Hi,

Recently bought a windows 8 laptop, trying to install the Yamaha driver results in the error message Error 25001 no device connected.

I've tried disconnecting any existing USB peripherals, and multiple USB ports..

Any suggestions bar installing windows XP?

Thanks

Mike

What kind of driver is this? A driver is a piece of software that makes a piece of hardware work. Most pieces of hardware nowadays are directly supported in Windows and don't need a separate driver install.

If you have a "Yamaha driver", it would be for a Yamaha device. But the AN1x is not a computer device, so there's no driver. You can connect it via MIDI and you might need a driver for your MIDI interface, if it's not a USB based MIDI interface.

USB devices don't need drivers either.

Yes, start with explaining what you're trying to achieve.

And don't install XP: from next March, it will be unsupported, and it cannot access more than roughly 3.6 GB of memory.

It's the yamaha USB driver for the AN1X, I've previously connected it directly with the Yamaha driver on my older laptop which got it working with Propeller-head Reason a-okay.

I've the same issue with my desktop running windows 8 also.

Should I look into getting a USB MIDI interface to connect to like Midisport to use instead?

Thanks for the reply

This thread sounds familiar? Did you ask this question here before?

Peter Korsten

already said most of it, but to recapitulate:

- What midi interface are you using? If it's a generic USB-Midi cable: the driver (class compliant) is included in Windows 7, and will be installed automatically.

- Generic USB-Midi cable are not recommended with older synths. Buy a midi interface that has it's own driver, like a Midisport one, for example.

- The Yamaha driver is for a Yamaha Midi Interface, the AN1X itself doesn't have drivers, and doesn't need them.

As said, USB devices don't need drivers. And there's no such thing as a USB driver for the AN1x, because the AN1x is not an USB device.

I've the same issue with my desktop running windows 8 also.

Yes, because the driver doesn't do anything.

It depends on what you have now. If you have one of those cheap USB-to-MIDI cables, there's a pretty good chance that sysex dumps don't work. No amount of software tweaking will solve that.

You haven't told us yet how you're connecting your computer to your AN1x. What are you using for that?

well you need a good quality one as those dont work with sysex properly
and the yamaha driver is for there usb to midi interface and not the an1x
an1x does not need drivers as its a midi synth and uses sysex control and dump and midi control data via a 5pin midi cable
midisport 2x2 4x4 work well with the an1x and have current upto date system drivers by m-audio

Brilliant, in which case I'll get hold of a midisport 2x2 to get this working.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone, much appreciated.
