AN200 os update HELP!!

AN200 os update HELP!!

2006-11-01 by parmastuff

I tried updating the OS of my AN200 by following these instructions:

http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/KnowledgeBase/KnowledgeBaseDetail/0,,CNTID%
253D22646,00.html?TextKeyword=an200&selectAreas=400445

I got to the point where the display says 'Fb0C'.

I turned it off and then proceeded to go to the next step, but it won't turn back on!!!

The display is blank, no sound, no anything. I tried sending the update again, but that didn't
do anything.

HELP!!!

I tried calling Yamaha tech support and all they did was give me the number for a local
service contractor. I really don't want to have to pay $$$ just to get this thing up and
running again. Wish I never would have bothered to try and update it...

if any of you guys has any ideas I could try before I take this thing in for service I'd
GREATLY appreciate it.

There had been another user on AN1x-list with the same problem. He posted back that
he'd followed the same procedure you link too

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list/message/9562

and that this had corrected the problem.

Are you following the directions accurately? Specifically, Step 7.

yeah, I followed the instructions - didn't touch the unit while it was updating, pressed the
right buttons, etc. - but now it won't even power up! so I can't try the update again
because the unit won't respond at all

7) Press and hold the [SONG], [PATTERN], and [EXIT] buttons on the AN200, then turn ON
the power. The following version messages will be displayed: 'nrML' / '1.030' / 'krnL' /
'0.500' / 'PLG' / '1.05'

So at Step 7, the version message never appears when you power ON while holding
[SONG], [PATTERN], and [EXIT]? You might want to cross post your question to the DX200
list here at Yahoo! Groups to see if anybody has experienced this. Otherwise, sounds like a
service center visit may be the right call...

8) Turn the power OFF.

9) Press and hold the [SHOW VALUE], [PATTERN], and [EXIT] buttons on the AN200, then
turn ON the power to execute the Factory Reset. This will take about 20 seconds.

Greetings:

Just for kicks, make sure your power adapter A) is the correct one, B)
it didn't die on you,
C) the cord, jack, etc, are good.

This does happen all of the time and it could just be coincidence here.
Generally, even
after a bad update, it is not totally dead as you say.

This was an issue with a perfectly good AN1x a while ago. That went
around in circles
in the group until I just said, "Sounds Like a bad Power Adapter" -- It
was. All is well.

Give it a look. Maybe replace or try a substitute anyway -- 12V DC
Center Positive.

Regards;

Peter

Peter,

thanks for the suggestion, but I had already tried a different adapter with no luck.

if you have any more ideas please share them as I'm desperate at this point.

yeah, at step 7 the unit just doesn't respond while powering on.

I'm a little reluctant to take it in for service because I only paid $180 for it not too long ago
and I'm afraid the service cost would make this into a bigger investment than I originally
planned.

and I did go ahead and post this in the DX200 group.

thanks for the suggestions

Is not the OS on the box side, that leaves the card inside intact.
If you got a yamaha near by that will take the card, try that and see
if the card is bad? not then you got something with the box..
seem it would light up with a bad OS anyway ...
there might still be some around here who only have the box left as they use
the card ...

OS 1.06, no word from anyone offical, none in the post or anything I seen at
yamaha ..
not worth the trouble to install .. some said to me they thought it was a
timing correction to one of the demos ...
