Hi,

well, there's a software named Cantor from Virsyn that can create synthetic 
speach, vocals and choir sounds...
Very simple choir sounds can be created using PWM...
FM/Ringmod combination or prefiltered FM/Ringmod can do nice vowel sounds too... 
More sophisticated ones need formant synthesis or formant filters (at least 3 
parallel bandpass filters).
