It removes harmonics, starting at the highest. So no matter which wave you start with as the source, if you turn down the Edge all the way you get a sine wave. I wish they had thought of morphing the wave in some form with an easy to understand parameter. As it is, you can use FM to create different waveforms from the internal sources... but doing this is tricky and difficult to get consistent results. If you learn to program the FM feature in the AN series synths I would have to call you an expert. Some of the best sounds use the FM feature. IIRC the "We All Die" patch has something to do with FM. Isn't that why it's called FM?
