Once I switched off daisy chaining my midi, 90%+ problems went away. I started off with a 2x2 midiman. Added a 3x8 splitter a week later and now I use a 8x8, 2x2 and the 3x8 splitter, about to add another 8x8. Works great in win of course as that is what I use with Sonar 3.1.1. Latency, you will always have it but if you use good equipment, you can keep it very low. I also use a MOTU 24i for audio in and out.
