Hi Alan, I can imagine your problems with your different routings. I do use a midi patcher/mixer to change between different midi routings. A Roland A-880, rather old but working great. It has 8 midi inputs and 8 midi outputs and you can connect every input to every output by simple button pushes. You can store 64 differnt setups in it, but in practice it works so simple I just tap in the needed routing on the fly. I know there are more devices on the market with this kind of functionality so a little investigation should give you more alternatives. Hope this helps.
