Re: [AN1x] synthesizer modeling

2002-10-30 by Jerry Aiyathurai

This is interesting reading. I guess there's two questions. To what
degree was Yamaha modelling the Prophet 5? How well does the AN model
emulate the Prophet?

I had read this article before and reasoned that the addition of
oscillator cross-mod to the AN plugin card was to give it more
prophet-like features. Still, audio rate modulation of the filter and
pulsewidth are not available on any of the AN models. Nor is the
ability to use noise as a modulation source (I think). These are
Prophet trademarks and one would think that a faithful model would
attempt such features.

If Yamaha modelled the Prophet, they did an incomplete job. However,
if the AN model is merely Prophet influenced, it's a pretty complete
synthesizer.

Cheers,

Jerry
