Hi Jim,

I my experience- DON'T go for cheap soundcards that offer both midi and 
sound. Usually the midi is only designed for gaming and basic music 
applications. The AN1x requires high level data to be sent to and fro with 
midi keyboard info on top of that. If you are pleased with the quality of the 
soundblaster card, then stick with that- but only for sound- also the 
soundblaster drivers are unreliable (for the time being- although, i would 
recommend spending a bit extra and getting a Korg 12/12 secondhand-for eg.). 
IMO it is better to get a seperate MIDI card such as a Midiman WINMAN PCI 
card- and with that you do have the option of multi midi ins and outs too.
