We never pinned it down as to what was happening with his AN1x. My AN1X has the same problem, there is no status-screen for mode 1 or 2. I have figured it out, (a long time ago, don't know the details anymore) to see what commands/functions are in mode 2 and not in mode 1, and trying to see what way the AN1X reacts to some tweaking with AN1X edit --> if nothing will happen to mode 2 commands (no change of sound), the AN1X must be in mode 1. If something happens with the sound the synth is in mode 2 --> I prefer mode 2 because you have more controle over the AN1X. maybe this helps...??? bye, Jeroen
