I would stick with the Nova - it's fairly deep and has three  
oscillators, which can take it into sonic territory the AN1x cannot go.

The only problem I had with my Nova was it's non-standard mapping of  
MIDI control numbers - they put the filter up around 109 or something  
instead of the standard 74 for cutoff and 71 for resonance, making it  
impossible for me to control the filter from my keyboard at the time  
(a Roland XP-30 which would only map sliders up to CC #100). Anyway,  
the programmable arpeggiator and latch button, plus individual effects  
per channel, make that one a keeper if you already have it. It's well  
suited for the type of music you mention.

Speaking of the XP-30, it's probably the best deal in the Roland JV/XP  
line - for $450 or so you get a massive amount of patches and the  
Orchestral and Session expansions (the two best ones for the JV/XP  
series) are built in.

The Blofeld is nice. Also consider a Waldorf Micro Q if you're going  
the wavetable route - essentially the same synth engine and cheaper,  
plus it works with most Q patches.
