As for Ozric Tentacles .. Well I do enjoy them from time to time, and have even made the effort to see them live, but, at the end of the day, I can't help but feel that they are one interpretation of what Gong might have become if you had stripped away Gong's sense of humour and taken them on a slightly different path than the one adopted by Pierre Moerlen (sadly now deceased). But we can't blame Pierre for that. Having such an instantly recognisable guitarist as Allan Holdsworth in those days kind of ensured that they would follow that particular path. The aspect of Ozric Tentacles that I do enjoy, when in the mood, is that they keep a track going for a lot longer than Gong did. Gong, on their 'real' albums (before Daevid Allen left the first time), always seemed to just get into a groove and then felt they had to break off to say/do something humourous, whereas Ozric Tentacles, having established a groove, milk it for every last drop. Gong live, of course, often let rip on a song for much longer than on the album versions. Also Gong, in their moments of instrumental genius on album, show, IMHO, a better vision, structure and sense of control of direction than the Tentacles do. Couldn't resist that coment! Anyways, long live my PLG150-AN!
