I built the moog slayer filter an must say it's pretty neat. It does
require a different way of programming the sounds. Just set the
cutoff to maximum and reso to -almost- maximum. I get a unreal
resonance if I set the level higher than 13. Doesn't seem healthy for
the IC's. I've uploaded a little demo in the files section of the
filter mod.
I also did the Poly800/EX800 rom swap but not in the known way. The
EPROM in the Poly 800 is a 8K-type and you can easily fit in 16 or
more in there. I had a 32KB type lying around and did the following:
1. Burned the lower half of the EPROM with the Poly800 firmware
2. Burned the upper half of the EPROM with the EX800 firmware
3. bend pin 26 and 27 (A13,A14 line) up and soldered a wire to it.
Also soldered wire to pin 28 (VCC)
3. mounted a switch to select VCC or GND to these two pins. Middle
goes to pen 26 and 27 of the EPROM. Left side of the switch somewhere
on the GND and right to VCC (pin 28).
That's it, what this modification does is it swaps the active
addresses of the EPROM. Mind you, with a 16KB type it's even easier,
just connect pen 26 to the switch.
I probably forgot some pull-up resistors, but what the heck, this is
cool. If someone does have a EPROM of the Poly II firmware though..
I'm still very interested!
By the way.. Parameter 87 on the EX800 goes from 0 to 64 instead
of 'prog change enable 0/1' on the poly 800. What does this parameter
do?
