Chord mode and MIDI

Chord mode and MIDI

2015-06-23 by Michael Hawkins

Can someone refresh my memory?

When a Poly is in chord mode, does sending MIDI notes to Poly result in single notes being played or chords?

/Mike

Hi everyone,

I wanted to follow up on this old topic. I've saved a chord from random notes that sounds pretty well, and I wouldn't want to lose it! Thing is, I forgot to write down the keys and can't recall which they are. I believe that the chord memory is reset once the Poly800 is turned off and that there is no way to save chords internally. Following up on the above questions of this thread, does anyone know if the poly will transmit all the keys saved in the chord via midi, or only the one pressed? Pretty sure the latter is true, but wanted to confirm with you all ! If anyone has any suggestion on how to retrieve the chord notes, it would be extremely helpful :) !
Thx in advance.
- Alex

You can save a chord progression to tape (PS-800) or to MIDI (PS800-II
and EX800). Which is awful but it works.
Only the single note that is held down is sent to MIDI.
A few people have asked me to add a feature to the HAWK that will play
all of the chord notes. I shall have another look and see how feasible
that is.

Thanks for your response ! I've looked at the manual and couldn't find a way to record the chord progression via Tape. I have the Poly 800 version, not the Mk2 or Expander version... Is this something that is done when the Chord memory is recorder, or can it be done after the fact (like in my situation)? Thx again for your help on this, greatly appreciated :)

Cheers

When you do a patch tape dump, it also saves the sequencer data AND the
chord progression.
Same thing with the EX and MK2 sysex dumps, they also save and load the
chord progression.

Quick update: I saved the data via the tape process to my laptop through my soundcard. I verified the data was corresponding to what was in my P800 with the verify mode. Everything seemed good, I disabled to tape mode, the Chord had disappeared. I thought that by re-loading the program from my laptop it would re-appear, but it didn't. Now I'm thinking I I supposed to "enable" write program when I Saved my data. I don't believe it is necessary, as I think it's only needed to load programs, and that in save mode it automatically saves programs+sequences. But regardless, no track of the chord :(.

Thanks again for your help though,
Alex
