Not true. They did a black sequencer called DSQ back
in the 80's. I own the DDD-1, Poly 800 reverse, DW
8000, 01/W. I adore this setup, although I own various
other synths and drum machines, but this 12bit machine
(DDD-1) rocks. The only one (I know) capable of
competing is (also mine) Yamaha RX5, but it's the same
thing, 12bit (I don't like Rolands, I have the R8 and
the TR626, and the SPD11. The sounds are pretty
natural (except the TR626, which sounds like a baby
toy), and that's exactly what I don't like about
them!), so I use the Yamaha RX11 and Korg DDD-1 almost
all the time. When I need REALLY natural sounds I use
the 16-layer Battery studio kits, translated into
Ensoniq EPS 16+ (capable of 16+ layering, can you
believe the coincidence?! :))) and it sounds much
better then any Roland, anyway....
