Subject: EML 101 patchbay question

Hello all..
I just picked up an EML 101 and the first thing that grabbed my
attention was that the ring modulator is placed after the filter in the
signal flow.. I don't know if this is common with most other
synthesizers of its era, but to me it seems illogical. By no means am I
saying that the decision to do so doesn't provide for some interesting
sounds and effects, but to me it would seem more useful placed before
the filter for a greater variety of waveforms. This brings me to my
question.. Instinctively I thought to just patch the output of the ring
modulator into the input of the filter, problem solved. However upon
going to do so, I realized there wasn't even an output for the ring
modulator. I tried the output for the amplitude shaper section of the
modulator thinking that may work, however no processed sound arrives at
the filter. The filter input checks out fine and works otherwise. Am I
just not seeing something here? Is there a way around this, or is this
just an inherent design flaw? Thanks for any help.
