Subject: Friends reunited...

Dear all

A very weird story... I've just won Gryphon's old 'Tron flightcase on eBay (apologies if the guy who lost it by two mins is on here). It was out in Essex (N-E of London), not a million miles from where I bought my 'Tron, 20 years ago. During the course of my conversation with the seller, he mentioned that the case's contents had been sold 'in 1988' for 175UKP. "Oh, that's what I paid for mine in '85", I said, "Just up the road from here. I had this weird day where I was sent from pillar to post, including goin to a trailer park north of here". "That was me", he said. Er... "Sold by two brothers?". "Yup". So, 20 years and a couple of months after buying my Mellotron, it's being reunited with its old flightcase, which means... I own the ex-Gryphon machine!

I've always wanted to know who owned it originally, although it seems unlikely they owned it from new, as it's a late '73 model, and they first used it in mid-'75, and not on their two previous albums. I know my tapes aren't the original ones, and they probably date from '77, post-Gryphon, but this is still very cool... I left my e-mail address with the guy, who's still in touch with the guys I bought it from, so hopefully I can find out some more.

Weird...
