You should have been at the first Detroit show that tour. It was the second
stop on the tour. The previous night had been Boston. Apparently tour
management was unaware that the US speed limit had been changed from 70 mph
to 55 mph due to the oil shortage. The concert was supposed to start at 8
PM, but the equipment trucks didn't make it to Cobo Arena until 10:30 PM.
Due to the quick set-up and lack of testing, a lot of the gimmicks didn't
work. They only played half of "Tales";
years later, Wakeman was to claim that was the only night of the tour he
enjoyed. (-8 We did get a second encore, though.
