Hello, folks!
As many of you know, I have been resurrecting
EMI103s "The Bastard Tron." It is a strange model
that started off as a regular EMI; Mahogany veneer,
black front and rear panels ect. At some point it was
over-sprayed and given a DMI face plate (the big
yellow "M" version) and the standard mustard colored
knobs and passed off as a DMI.
In my quest to restore it to it's former glory,
it has become very important to restore both
face-plates as a record of it's different identities
in it's odd history. I have made a duplicate DMI
faceplate and have a full knob compliment for it.
What I need are EMI style knobs. I realize the
problem in that there weren't many EMI machines to
begin with and there are even fewer surviving, much
less the knobs. The ideal scenario is if somebody had
a spare set of EMI knobs to sell. But since that's
probably not a possibility, I ask a favor of EMI
owners willing to help me out.
If some kind soul or souls could digitally
photograph their EMI knobs, very close-up and
detailed, and send the photos along to this email
address, along with measurements and a description of
any manufacturer's markings on the knobs themselves, I
would be most grateful. That way I might be able to
track down a reasonable facsimile for my unit, to
restore it's EMI integrity.
I have just installed an SMS5 in her (thanks to
Markus, once again for his undying patience) and she's
quite mechanically happy, and now I am ready to
refinish the cabinet to it's original mahogany. All
that's left is some knobs. Please help!
Thank you for your time,
Jack Younger
