Irecently purchased my 2nd Tron from a fellow list member who happened tolive only 15 minutes away. He posted on this list that he wanted to sellit. I have been waiting several years to find a 2nd one. Toget it into playing condition ended up requiring a bit of work. The pinchrollers were fine, but all of the felts on the pressure pads and key springshad to be replaced, the power supply was dead and had to be resurrectedby our own Jerry Korb (thanks Jerry). It needed a replacement motor (Ihad a spare) a new pitch pot (had one) and, ultimately a replaced SMS board(had one). Iwent through the whole machine and cleaned, squared and polished everything. Now I have a Mellotron that sings loud and clear (actually, I have twothat do). No wobblies, no instability and no hum. Total investment wellunder 3K.GreetingsAll, Hope you all in the USA and Canada had
wonderfulIndependence Day Holidays (4-July & 1-July,
respectively).Happyto contribute my share (however small sometimes),
tothe greater good of Mellotrons and their revival.
....Alwayswill be a labour of love......
Thanksto Jerry, Martin and Markus for advice and assistance. What a wonderfulgroup we have! Myadvice... If you want to buy a Tron, be patient, do your homework and askfor help from folks on this list. I have rebuilt a bunch of these thingsand I learn new things every day. There is a wealth of information at ourdisposal and a willingness to help, and chances are, if the Tron you wantis not close to home, there is someone on this list who might be able tocheck it out for you. Frank(1562 and 430)I'mjust "part of the team" Frank. Streetly and Markus
have"official" businesses, while you and I and others
onthis List are enterprising people with indepenent
satelliteoperations.Beforepurchasing "Julia" in 1998, I had a wonderful
opportunityto get it checked-out/inspected before the
dealwas completed . Being that I and the seller
(RobertA. Laughton.....where ARE you,BTW ?) were on
oppositesides of the USA, a good friend temporarily
onassignment in Silicon Valley,CA drove a few hours
eachway to photograph and hear "Julia" on my
behalf.Frank'slast sentence above personifies this perfectly.
Cheers, Jerry Korb
