Speaking of what's going on, Martin, I think it would be lovely if you would share recent developments at Streetly with those of us on the list (you know me) who actually might give a shit. I would love to know about how the development of new Mellotrons are coming along. Don't be shy.
Briefly, our resident engineer, The Fabulous Brian Soukal is making press tools, jigs and fixtures each and every day of his life during the weeks ahead. The capstans have been made, the PCBs are here, the keyboards just need calling off and we hope to have new machines early 2005 though nothing is set in stone as something will go wrong. 90% of the instrument's components will be manufactured in our workshops but the balance have to be ordered out and that is where the cockups invariably happen.
The new machine's basic components will be 100% backwards compatible. Our aim is to have a stock of parts that anyone with a 30 year old M400 can use, that includes original preamp/line amps. Renovations are still our main function and we are generating parts to maintain this activity. We even have the original control knobs sourced but the neon switches are still a problem although we have a decent alternative.
This isn't the full story by any means so you'll have to be patient for the other news. If you are planning on buying an M400, just wait a little as your dream machine is on it's way.
