Hi gang,
I just want to update you on some other things mellotronic.
Last Sunday Jerry "the prof" Korb, Ken Leonard and myself participated in a a radio interview with Jad Abumrad, host of WNYC's show "RadioLab". They are doing a show on sampling and wanted info and stories related to the mellotron, it's beginnings and its future. Naturally, we ran at the mouth for about three hours and sent them into catatonic fits. I will post air times when they become available. WNYC is 93.9 FM in the NYC area. Thanks to the gentlemen at Streetly for recommending me to do this. I'm sure anyone who listens will get a kick out of it.
During this interview, I had the opportunity to premier my new Streetly tapeframe of the first set of my newly recorded sounds for Streetly's library, Plucked piano, Chamber winds and Angry strings. I couldn't be happier with the results. These three sounds have been a two year project for me and I was anxious to hear the results. The Plucked piano has wonderful depth and power. The chamber winds are rich and feature a delayed vibrato not unlike the Ian McD flute. The winds are a layer of alto flute, english horn, C flute and oboe. It is a beautiful pad sound. The angry strings are a split of two celli and two violini that sound an octave lower than are beloved 3 vlns. They are played con fuego and as Martin commented "sound very tronny". in the coming weeks I will create samples for Mr. Dickson's web page so you all can audition them. They are a great addition to the library and they will be a big part of my future tron usage.
I recieved these sounds on a new Streetly tape frame and as expected, the quality of the rack is outstanding as well as the tape stock used. These puppies drove perfectly in #1697. In a world of throw away items , Streetly continues to build products that undoubtedly will stand up over time.
Cheers,
