Last thing - the new frame has new ∗metal∗ turnbuckles that have what
looks like PTFE sleeves on the runners. The tapes simply whizz through
them. Is this a new design?
These are indeed a much improved component. The old turnbuckle was produced from some very tired three plate injection moulding tool, circa 1963. We were warned by our suppliers that this was needing to be replaced three years ago so we bought a load of stock before we retired it(and Markus whisked it off to Sweden. Good luck!). Now that we have Brian, a retired toolmaker working here we thought we'd upgrade the component and have therefore manufactured press tools in the workshop, sorry, factory over the last two months. The joy of self sufficiency no less. The new turnbuckles have aluminium side cheeks and a crafty captive O ring locking mechanism(Mr Soukal's cunning idea) that is more secure than the older version. The hubs are turned from acetal rod for extra smoothness. There is no PTFE as this creates static.
Best,
Martin
