First, I wish to thank MellotronGirl for that funny analogy.
I copied/sentit along to friends of mine who recently
had twin daughters. They'll get a real kick out of it !
Frank's Stickle'seloquent words brought the following to mind.
This is an smallexcerpt written in 1953 :
" I remember themuffled-sound of muleteams straining
to ease 70-ton canal-boats into the narrow locks.
I remember thethunderous roar of water rushing
underground, thetaut wire-ropes pulling the boats over
the inclinedplanes.
I remember thesounds of boatmen's conch shells
coming fartherand farther apart.
I remember thesounds of a locomotive whistle and
then those new-fangledautomobiles nearby.
I remember mossand then weeds on my crumbling banks.
I remember along and lonely silence, and I waited for decades.
.....One day,a knowing and sympathetic voice
spoke to me.After oblivion,I was discovered again.
......The discoverywas mutual. "
That was written 50 years ago,by a historian
of NJ'shistoric and unique Morris Canal.
But totally appropriatefor Mellotrons as well.
With each Mellotronrediscovered and restored,
those voicestruly will be grateful once more
