I know what you mean- our guitarist has one of the 47 replicas made by
fender, and we've photographed it next to the original. and I suppose my m400 is
quite scruffy... somehow it's possible to be guarding an instrument with your
life (rory only used this one strat and very few other guitars) and still knock
all it's paint off during the course of playing it. I think the state of 1098
helped me secure it- if it had looked a bit less like an abandoned kitchen
unit, maybe the original owners wouldn't have abandoned it under tim wallhead's
bench back in 1990. and maybe this is how come rory got his '61 strat back, with
bits of someone's front garden stuck to it, when it was stolen. I wouldn't go
so far as to say they actually sound /better/ for all the dings and scrapes-
that would be bad science- but there's definitely a connection between signs
of frequent use and good behaviour.
