Subject: Re: Mellotron Emulator / Samples / Sound modules

Just got the CD from Gert Emmens called "Wanderer of Time." Berlin
School all the way (very much like Free System Projekt), and among
the equipment listed is the Roland M-VS1.

If Gert is using the M-VS1 for the 'tron sounds (most likely, sounds
it), I can handle the flutes on an early track, the choir is better
(sometimes buried and used as a pad out of 'tron range, though), but
the 3-violin as in "Alien Matter" really doesn't do it, as the patch
is being used as the main instrument, not buried in the mix. Lots of
fast vibrato, perhaps that's the loop point? When it is buried a bit
more ("Elektra World"), it fits better but still sounds decidedly non-
'tronny.

Not trying to be critical---overall the CD does a good job at
presenting mainstream Berlin School electronic. Not as powerful as,
say, Redshift, but sequenced and nice with no huge surprises a la
Free System Projekt. Nice to hear a Solina in there, too.

...kl...M400 #805 - dump the M-VS1 and call me! :-)
