It seems that the rebirth of prog-flavored mainstream pop is finally starting.  If you haven't encountered a band called Evanescence ( www.evanescence.com ) yet, check them out.  Their debut album, "Fallen" has already hit platinum status, largely based on the single called "Bring Me to Life" which was used in the movie "Daredevil" earlier this year.   
 
Well, I found a copy, and it's actually not at all bad, although the ballads are pretty lame. They use 'beats' (as I believe they're referred to), but plenty of decent keyboard stuff, with aggressive guitar and good female vocals. Bit of a stylistic mish-mash, but I've heard an awful lot worse. Certainly no Mellotron, but as Jon says, quite a bit of strings/choir-type keys.
