A big amen to previous responses, and welcome to the sideshow! I can relate
to the feeling of not wanting to wait any more and when I FINALLY (after
lusting for 32 years) found mine a year and a half ago, I was fortunate
enough to find a motivated seller and ended up spending far less than what I
had decided I would spend for it to bring it home that day, which was
actually a good bit more than what you ended up paying. So you aren't a
sucker, just a motivated buyer who is going to give the Grail a good home.
It's going to be harder and harder to find Mellotrons as the people who
really love them slowly soak up all of the ones that are in circulation, and
we'll all be watching musician obituaries in a few years to search for new
acquisitions - (hmmm, with Maurice gone, is there a Mk II going on the
market?)
Anybody, serial #380, doesn't that predate the availability of the 8-voice
choir? If so, that would mean that you have a newer tape set than the
actual age of the instrument, too. Or perhaps you have that "Ted Turner
Quire" instead...
