Please let me know.
Is it true to say that it is not "Space Oddity" of David Bowie but "My Ship"
?It records on Battersea Power Station.? of JUNIOR'S EYES that Rick
Wakeman recorded first using Mellotron?
Good question. When I interviewed Rick for The Mellotron Book, he made mention of becoming aware of the Mellotron during those sessions. He said, "I first became aware of the Mellotron when I did a session for a band called Junior's Eyes at Morgan Studios in North London. The studio had just opened (1968) and what became the bar was then the studio. Tony Visconti was producing and I was booked to play Hammond organ. In the corner of the studio was one of the original double manual Mellotrons that had just been delivered. Between takes, I played around with it and got to know its little quirks."
There was no mention if that MkII was used by him on those sessions. Unless you need to know right away to because of a bet, or you've bartered away the rights to your firstborn, I will ask Rick about that when I see him on 12/2 and post the response afterward.
P.S. - You wouldn't want to exchange one of your MkII's for this vital information by any chance, would you? Doesn't hurt to ask, does it?
