For Sale:
Mellotron 400S, Serial #878. I purchased it around 1986 from the personal collection ofRoger Dumas, owner of Roger Dodger Music in Mpls., MN (if anyone knows him, tell him Skip says “hi.”) It camewith a homemade Anvil case stenciled Mason Profit (their one hit was “TwoHangmen Hangin’ from a Tree”) that was so wobbly I never used it, and ended upabandoning it somewhere.
It is in working condition, except for the low and high D keys; the highhas more wow and flutter than it should, and the low has stiction to the pointit won’t play the whole length of tape. It has the original paint that has yellowed, with the dings you wouldexpect (I can post pictures, if you like.) I will include a new (in 1986) set of tapes loaded in aframe in an attractive leatherette briefcase that I purchased from theMellotron Corp. when I bought the keyboard. The salesman told me that they were new recordings of theoriginal masters that were several db hotter than the original set, with abetter snr. I had good intentions, but never got around to installing them.
I also have two (what I believe are) mimeographed copies of the owner’smanual; they are stapled together and begin on page three with the introductionand end on page 33 with hand drawn schematics of the scope check points, powersupply, and attenuator. I willalso include the instructions Mellotron sent me for installing the new set oftapes, and some sales brochures for Novatron stuff.
My asking price is $4,000, shipping and insurance notincluded. I’m open to suggestionsfor shipping; I live in the Twin Cities, and a sightseeing trip here may be thebest solution.
Please call or write if you have any questions, and I’m soglad there are still people out there who still love these things.
