I'm no fan of Jon Anderson - his singing voice was what kept me from
becoming a fan of Yes. I never gave much thought his lyrics, really
only noting that he was cool enough (to my teenaged sensibilities) to
name a song after a Robert Heinlein novel.
With that said, I have experienced a mountain coming out of the sky and
have to say that it's pretty damned cool. I used to live in Portland,
OR and when I first moved there I was driving east along a highway
facing the mountains and after a while noticed what appeared to be a
huge triangular cloud in the sky. It took me a couple of minutes to
figure out that I was seeing the snow cap on Mt. Hood and atmospherics
had visually eliminated the base of the mountain. Very disorienting and
a bit upsetting while you're trying to figure out how a cloud can take
on a triangular shape. On really clear days, you could even see Mt. St.
Helens from there which was even weirder, what with its flat top and all.
