Well Flank, Edgar Froese and Tangerine Dream are the very reasons I bought and still have my trusty ARP 2600 and Mellotron M400 in 1974.
I have never heard the other band, so I can offer no opinion on their work.
Perhaps the fact that I started listening to T-Dream in 1973 makes me hear it differently than you do.
I will admit that I do not like everything that T-Dream and Froese's released, but I certainly have heard a lot of other newer releases/artist that leave me disinterested.
Of course this is just my opinion.

I just recently downloaded Celluloid's Neptune and Edgar Froese's Ypsilon In Malaysian Pale from mp3fiesta.com, and listened to them in their entirety for the first time.  Ok, Ok, so they're predominantly mellotron based and nice to have in the collection, but am I the only one on this list who thinks that they're aural fecal matter from start to finish (including the abysmal The Pillory)?
