i'va always worked the other way around.
and yes - many drummers HATE it.

i'm really not sure how you could generate a "clock" from a drummer.
a trigger, yes, but a "clock"?
i think you are asking, if not the impossible, the impractical.
aclock, by its very definition, is a regular pulse THAT NEVER MISSES
A TICK. i have a couple boxes that can generate clock from an audio
trigger, but that trigger has to, again, be a regular pulse without
missing a tick or a tock. [the garfield time commander i own can do
this, but it's really intended to generate something in order to be
able to replace drum sounds on tape, at least that's how the previous
owner used it]. adn there is a lot of nudging involved - it's not
something you would do in alive situation.

my advice: just make the drummer work to a click.
not to be contrary just for the sake of being contrary, but is there
something that precludes that scenario?

you are looking to essentailly create a "live tap tempo".
i just don't see that working out in any practical scenario.

if you'd like to reply off-list please feel free to do so.
