i just watched hal hartley's "fay grim".

i won't comment on the film here - not the appropriate place
for that, but i am pretty sure i heard mellotron strings in
the closing credits. i even played them back twice. there is
that odd sense, familiar to those of us that play them, of
the timing needed to keep from running out of sound. it is
one of the things that makes playing a mellotron so special.
[to return to the recent discussion on clones/sampling etc.]

hal hartley did the entire score himself, so he would have
needed access to a tron [or they could have been samples i
suppose - i can't say i am 100% it was a mellotron]. he has
moved to germany recently [a couple years ago - prior to the
start of shooting on "fay grim"] but i don't know anything
about him having his own recording studio or anything.
never noticed any mellotron in his earlier films, but now
i have to go and check up on this...

if you don't know who hal hartley is, or what he is about,
go rent "the unbelievable truth" or "simple men" before you
go any further, these are early examples of his style. the
wife hates his stuff, i kinda dig it... but it's not for
everyone and i understand what they don't like about him...
there i go off-topic...

well, if anyone else has seen "fay grim" and has heard the
closing credits, can they please confirm or deny the
mellotron strings? thanks!
