Well, pretty much the memory battery can die and cause these symptoms.

Despite your battery being about 2 years old, do you know how much shelf
life it lived? One problem with these batteries is that they last so long
they can be around for a long time before they are sold. You can open your
EX-8000 and measure the voltage on the battery. Depending on how you
replaced the original battery, you could just replace it with a fresh one if
you installed a battery holder at that time.

If it isn't the battery, check for cracked solder joints around the battery
holder's contacts, or on any solder pads for any user interface buttons.
Anything with an electrical contact that normally gets physically pushed or
moved is a good possibility. I had the ground pad on the input slider on my
DW-8000 crack around the solder joint, and that caused a lot of spurious
behavior.

You might have also had a component in the power supply section fail,
capacitors are usual culprits, look for any electrolytic cans that have
swelled or burst. Barring that, measure supply voltages against those in a
service manual and troubleshoot any parts of the supply with low voltages.
