DW-6000/8000 extra waveforms mod

DW-6000/8000 extra waveforms mod

2016-09-25 by Bob Grieb

On the Strellis web site, he mentions that the waveform ROMs were not socketed
on his DW-6000, so I assume they are also not socketed on the DW-8000. This makes
installing this kind of mod a much bigger deal than simply unplugging chips and plugging
a cable into the socket or something. I wonder if people would really be happy
with this mod long-term, since the expanded waveform selection cannot be saved with
the patch, or controlled by MIDI. Also, there seem to be lots more DW-8000's around than
DW-6000's, whereas the 6000 seems a better candidate for the mod due to it's more limited
waveform selection.

He explains it's a bit cumbersome and doesn't
want to have to troubleshoot other people's
 efforts....
Please don't ask for schematics, FPGA code or the
binary contents of the expanded ROMs for this mod. I really
can't afford the time to support other peoples
 modification attempts.
 Sorry.

wavetables are easy todo as they are made on the dss1 and dsm1 samplers in the
correct band limited format the dwgs series is made on it

It was long ago i opened one, but unless my memory is wrong they are socketed on both.

I have a DW-8000 and can say for sure that on my unit those chips are not socketed.
Maybe on some units they were.

Hi there! I also have a MEX8000 memory expander, so I could put a lot of custom presets, with the only effort to remember wich ones of the two new waveforms I have to choose for each of them ... :-) . Hope there will be really the chance to have the mod in future, with a personal customizing waveforms choice, and maybe, who knows, a ring modulator board inside..... ;-) .
