i would like to confirm your suspicions
all those years you spent as an electronics tech were for nothing
but you may be redeemed if you can make some music in life
you got a good deal on that piece of junque now do whatever it takes to turn it into something musically useful
find out what kind of battery it takes
find the manual online it should tell you
dont waste time on it if you cant get it going
if it doesnt work spend your time making music and creating sounds with something that does work
one last tip
many times with these older synths especislly the dw series static discharge wreaks havoc on the optoelectronics
to alleviate electrostatic synth cling as it is commonly called
sprinkle a liberal amount of fine talcum powder over the entire keyboard and contrls
once the synth is functioning properly you can blow it off with a hair dryer
i use a conair 1500 watt on the low setting but im im sure others will work just as well
