[sdiy] [ADMIN] A reminder about the Synth-DIY list

Hi all,

Given some of the discussions lately, this seems like a good time for a reminder of what the Synth-DIY list is for, and where we draw the boundaries.

The description on the synth-diy.org website says:
“Keep discussion respectful and on-topic. Abuse, disputes, politics, and religion are outside the list’s scope.”

Synth-DIY has always allowed a fairly broad range of discussion around synthesizer electronics, design, building, repair, software and related subjects. Disagreement is fine, and sometimes useful. Personal attacks are not.

Please also try to keep threads on-topic. If a discussion drifts into a genuinely new subject, start a new thread rather than replying to an existing message and changing the subject. Selling and trading belong on the Marketplace list, and please don’t cross-post messages between lists.

At the moment, some threads which have repeatedly resulted in personal attacks or otherwise gone outside the scope of the list are being moderated. Messages to those threads may therefore be held for moderator approval, and I am not in a hurry to do so. This is intended to keep those particular discussions civil without unnecessarily moderating the rest of the list.

Most of you know that I’d like to keep moderation as light-touch as possible. That works best when everybody makes a reasonable effort to keep discussions technical, civil and useful.

Thanks,
Ben
Synth-DIY list moderator
