No, it's to do with the tip size of some cheap far eastern 3.5mm jack 
plugs.  Some have a non-standard smaller than normal tip which doesn't 
contact well with Cliff sockets CL1382/CL1384.  The sockets 
CL13821/CL13841 are almost exactly the same but have a slight bend in 
the tip contact that makes it contact better.  Even so, these are not a 
particularly positive contacting design.  That's why I mentioned Cliff 
JYO-35 (FC6812) which have a more firm contact (but unfortunately have a 
ugly knurled panel nut).
