Why OnSemi makes some of the Philips stuff, is that Philips
was contracted to supply various parts & their (Philips) plant
burnt down. So Philips got OnSemi to do it. I presume that they
are only making the parts that Philips HAD to have, not 
necessarily the ones WE would like.

As for the NE/SE, the quality of semis has gradually increased
(a clean room is much cleaner today, for example) and like some
other companies, maybe they found themselves with ALL the 
components meeting the higher SE specs.
Plus with high yeilds it's probably cheaper to do just the one run
of the superior product.
