[sdiy] EMS Synti AKS - questions regarding configuration & rare silicon

Hello
Both of the synthi As are now repaired; one has a fault with the envelope
shaper and the other is fine. They both need a bit of calibrating but that's
about it.
However, the KS parts are another story. The K ("keyboard") parts both work
but the S ("sequencer") parts don't seem to be fully operational. Trouble
is, I don't have an instruction manual so I can't be sure I'm patching the
sequencers properly or adjusting the controls.
Can anyone tell me how to configure the synthi A to accept the sequencer? I
note that the "vertical" joystick control has an arrow showing "sequencer"
for fully CCW. Both of my AKSs are MkII units - both have prestopatch
sockets. I don't know how to configure the matrix or the controls on the A,
or the controls on the KS.
Secondly - when the KS is running, the PMOS shift registers (MF7104 on one
or MF50052T on the other) get very hot - too hot to touch for longer than a
second or so. The scant data I do have tells me that the max. power
dissipation = 500mW. That seems a lot for a TO-100 can! The PSU on the KS
is fine - the V out from the LM309 is 5V. Does anyone have a KS who can
tell me if theirs get very hot too?
However, in spite of the heat (problem?) the sequencer does seem to do
*something* - I can tell it to "record" and then tap in a sequence of notes.
The rhythm of the programmed notes plays back but not the pitch. Hence my
concerns that I've configured things incorrectly!
I hope someone can help - I've looked for a copy of the instruction manual
online and, whilst I have found the "synthi educational handbook", I believe
it refers to the MkI synthi A and so far I haven't had too much luck copying
its recommendations. Perhaps I'm just being a bit obtuse.
Cheers
