first electronic kit i ever played with - a japanese
building block style experimenters kit.  the new
reissue from gakken also feature an optical tone wheel
system.  unfortunatly its a bit expensive to get here

also of note, gakken released an expansion in the 80s
with a "system sythesizer" block (potted module with
TI SN76477 chip, i believe) ...ive been trying to get
ahold of one of those for about 5 years...
