I wonder ... dBX noise reduction used to be (in)famous for its 2:1
compression over the whole dynamic range /and the whole frequency range,
(and for its noise modulation).
So these 95dB SNR of the box might only mean some 50dB SNR for the CCD,
after all ?

Yes, in that interview he writes about multiplexing and differential mode.
The description sopunds a lot like that one application of the SAD1024
we were talking about recently.
