The J201 has been discontinued?  Sheesh, and it was still in such  
common use!  :)

I haven't heard of the K117 and can't find much info after a quick  
google, and it's not on R Tellason's site (http:// 
yourpage.blazenet.net/rtellason/transistors-3up.html) so I don't know  
if it's an N-channel JFet with the same pins.  You might want to get  
him to show you a datasheet or something first.
