The first sentence on their wesite says "SynthEdit is a Modular Synthesiser 
for Windows (Win 98 or better). With SynthEdit you can design your own 
Synth from the ground up.  Drag and drop modular components, connect them 
with virtual "patch cords". "

Sure sounds like a soft synth from that description. :-)

I'm sure all this is true.  But it doesn't tell me if it has the specific 
special functions I need.  (I want to implement some of my VC chaos 
generator designs.)  It's not something I want to get "caught up in".
I want it to solve a problem.

Around here, that wouldn't be considered much of an endorsement.  But maybe 
you haven't been on the list that long. :-)

I have an email into Jef about whether the components I need are available, 
so we'll see.
