For those of you looking for lots of battery powered circuit schematics,
might I recommend

A ton of guitar oriented effects schematics, but many circuits that could
also be used in synthesizers. One of the best links is the "Applications of
an audio Current Controlled Amplifier" which shows a battery powered 13700
circuit and several interesting applications. Further down in the "NEW AT
GEO" links section (dated 10/21/00) is an interesting section about simple
digital LFOs.

Lotsa neat guitar stuff, some tube goodies, a PIC controlled effects
switching pedalboard (this one is a little lean on details, but has
interesting ideas anyway), and all sorts of wah and distortion schematics.
