I have a Hitachi scope that I've used since probably 1983, and it's always
been dim at the highest sweep rates. I always thought of it as an
annoyance, but it was still usable at least.

Is the dimming usually some sign of other problems, or just a simple
annoyance? It seems to be just the later case with my scope.
