to add on to that... i almost always mix down everything onto a cassette
tape... old analog tape decks, with nice happy lighted meters... an analog
deck + clean tape heads = nice alternative to a heavy analog mixers.

and then just play it back into the computer.

when i cant mix something to tape, i will mix it through a nord micro
modular... theres lots of ways you can make an fx patch to thicken/fill a
mix.
