Actually, I asked if he had tried them. :-)

But, given that Brad's setup is 100% soft, does it not make sense for him to
try keeping it that way? Trying a plug-in is often a free trial deal. It's
also a way to try simulated tape distortion and/or tube distortion.

Maybe the question is, who let the virtual guy in here, to begin with? ;-)

Not all DIYers like to build tube circuits, and there are many inexpensive
ones on the market.

"Tube preamps are probably worth a listen, and there are a million to choose
from these days."
