   You're absolutely right.  Once I get all of the bugs worked out of the 
logic, then I would certainly consider going this route.

   Well I only did a cursory search.  I tend to avoid Philips and 
On-Semi, but I am aware that TI carries probably the most comprehensive 
list of logic of probably all the manufacturers.
